
Alex is a senior MedTech advisor and former EY consulting partner with nearly 30 years of experience in the healthcare and life sciences sector. He has worked extensively with global life sciences manufacturers to bring innovative technologies to patients and healthcare professionals—quickly, safely, and effectively.
He has a special interest in SaMDs, wearables, device drug-device combination products and in vitro diagnostics and is a subject matter expert on European medical device regulatory and commercial strategy. Clients have included Edwards Lifesciences, Fitbit, Google Deepmind, Babylon, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Amgen, Ascensia, Smith & Nephew, Medtronic
Alex studied medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London and further trained in cardiothoracic and major trauma surgery. He was a cardiothoracic surgeon in the UK and clinical lead for chest trauma, responsible for developing and running the chest trauma service at one of London's major trauma centers. In that role he was also senior lecturer in surgical technology.
As a partner in EY’s consulting business, Alex was the UK&I MedTech lead and a founding partner of the European MedTech team. Building a small team of fifteen specialist consultants he founded the new Global Patient Safety Centre of Excellence focusing on safety and clinical risk across the Medtech product lifecycle. Alex was also the Consulting Account Lead (CAL) for Smith & Nephew, supporting and overseeing consulting across EY’s various consulting services
As Director in Life Sciences, he co-founded the European MedTech regulatory, quality and safety sub-practice in 2016 and grew it from scratch into a profitable business, building a new team, bringing new clients, and creating new offerings. In 2019, Alex pulled together all the elements of MedTech life Science consulting and created the International Integrated MedTech Solutions sub-practice, abusiness providing expertise across the product lifecycle in strategic commercial assessments, clinical advisory, and regulatory strategy and submissions.
